One of my favorite things about having a versatile wardrobe, is being able to wear my pieces all year. When chosen to compliment your lifestyle and personal style, a few key pieces transition from season to season seamlessly, and today I want to share one of the ways I like to do this in my own wardrobe. For this outfit, Im focusing specifically on spring to summer but I'll also be sharing more of these transitional looks in the future for transitioning into other seasons as well.

When it comes to transitional dressing, I find that the switch from spring to summer is one of the easiest for me to maneuver because all that's needed to make something more or less summery is a light topper like the denim jacket I'm wearing here.
With this idea in mind, I started my look with a monochromatic base of lightweight pieces that are perfect for unpredictable spring weather. Personally, I chose a linen top and shorts because nothing beats this fabric when it comes to surviving a southern summer (even if it does wrinkle crazy, it's worth it so that I'm not melting). If you don't like linen and dislike the unavoidable wrinkles, you can just as easily opt for cotton or another light, breathable fabric.
One I had my base sorted, I added a pair of open back, cap toe pumps to ankle the look and topped it with a denim jacket which offers the perfect amount of warmth as the temperatures fluctuate throughout the day. If you're anything like me and are always cold, the addition of a light jacket or sweater is a must for spring dressing. I completed it all with a trendy pair of earrings to keep things modern and a structured leather purse to keep everything from feeling too summery.
We took these pictures a few weeks ago and it has since warmed up quite a bit here in Charleston, but I've continued to wear this same base just by swapping out a few things. The first swap I made to take this look from spring to summer, was the shoes. I replaced the pumps with a pair of easy summer sandals.
Next, I replaced the structured purse with a straw bag for an instant summer touch and replaced the darker tortoise shell earrings with a pair of bold gold hoops.
To complete the look, I pulled my hair back in a low bun and added a long necklace. Just like that, the same monochromatic base went from spring to summer without skipping a beat. Plus, I can even transition this same look into early fall later this season by adding the pumps and structured bag back into the mix, and swapping the denim jacket for a light blazer in a deeper shade.
