FALL 2019 FASHION TRENDS | PHOTOS

Even though it’s definitely still summer here, I’m already dreaming and planning for fall so today I want to delve a little deeper (with pictures) into the fall 2019 fashion trends. If you’d like to see my video on the subject, you can watch it here or at the bottom on this post.

  1. UPDATED SUITING

Things like structural shoulders, cinched waists and clean tailoring are everywhere for fall. I love this trend and think that it’s incredibly accessible because you can go as crazy or subdued as you like. For example, if you love oversized blazers you can try a vintage men’s option or if you want to keep things more low-key you can simply belt your current favorite blazer.

2. HEAD-TO-TOE LEATHER & LUXE LEATHER SEPARATES

Texture is one of my favorite things to play around with and the rise of leather separates for fall is right up my alley. I love the look a tailored leather blazer (so easy to find second hand!) and a relaxed slip dress or classic jeans. Plus, leather or pleather separates are a wonderful way to add interest to a monochromatic outfit.

3. THE NEW BOURGEOIS

Take your timeless wardrobe essentials in classic cuts and colors wear them all together for the ultimate luxe look. This trend also includes classics with a twist and features things like classic separates with updated sleeves or fun linings and slouchy boots in a classic color or croc embossed bags and shoes or luxe capes that update your entire wardrobe. It’s subtle details like this that make these new classics so great and something you can invest in with confidence.

Square toes are tricky but if you’re looking for an easy way to update your look with just one pieces, square toes are a great way to do this.

5. PERIOD PIECES

This next one is carrying over from spring and summer and something thats so easy to find second hand and vintage. It includes everything from ruffles to statement sleeves and lace inlets. Also lace up shoes, elaborate headbands and hair accessories and pearl jewelry that feels both modern and antique are perfect for this one.

6. TOUGH ROMANCE

In contrast to the period pieces trend, we’re also seeing a tough almost grungy look that consists of lace and romantic details paired with tough accessories like combat boots, chains and chokers. All done in black as well to toughen it up even more.

7. PISTACHIO

There’s always a color or two that becomes the it color of the season and this fall it’s pistachio. This color is carrying over from spring/summer but for fall we’re seeing it in head-to-toe pistachio looks. Things like green coats paired with green pants and accessories is perfect for this trend and it’s a great time to stock up on this color if it’s one of your personal faves.

8. CRYSTALS

If you love bling, then this next trend is perfect for you. Crystals in accents, jewelry and shoes are going to be everywhere for fall 2019 but it goes beyond a night out. Instead, we’re seeing it paired with daywear and traditional wool and tweed fabrics for a luxe daytime look.

9. BALLOON SLEEVES

Statement sleeves have been around for a few seasons now but this fall it’s all about the balloon sleeves. These voluminous, subtly romantic sleeves are perfectly modern and 80’s at the same time and look fantastic in just about every material from cotton to cashmere.

10. TIGHTS

Last but not least, we have tights. This trend spans printed tights, colored tights and everything in between. For an understated take on this trend, I think subtle polka dot tights with a neutral outfit is perfect!

AUGUST MOOD BOARD

august mood board -.jpg

"Walking the streets of Charleston in the late afternoons of August was like walking through gauze or inhaling damaged silk." -Pat Conroy

I’ve always loved August. I love the promise of a new season that grows closer with every sunset, and the relaxed mood that this month brings to the world. It’s as if everyone is taking a collective deep breath and all at once agreeing to settle into the final moments of summer. Settling into warm days and cooler nights, lazy afternoons, and the soon to be fleeting memory of doing nothing. We’re right on the cusp of so much in August, and it’s such a lovely feeling.

MOOD & FEELING

My mood for this month is excitement and planning. Despite the warm temps I’m already planning my fall wardrobe and working on fall themed content - fall trends are first! I’m also taking advantage of the longer days to set up my vintage and second hand shop - launching soon - and do a few final summer organization sprees to get everything in a good place for the rest of the year.

CURRENTLY WEARING, LOVING & DOING

Late summer is always a tricky time to dress for - especially when you live somewhere that stays warm until almost October - but I’ve been playing around with a few ideas that I’m excited to share in coming videos. Things like incorporating seasonal colors into my outfits through accessories and changing up my jewelry have been a few ways that I’ve been loving right now. I’m also loving the idea of continuing to wear my new straw hat into the fall with knits in similar dreamy colors and timeless ankle boots, and I’m so excited to wear my newly acquired dresses into fall as well. I’ve already been playing around with different layering and accessories to make them work - all in the comfort of my air conditioned house though lol.

Beyond the fashion front, I’ve been trying to branch out of my usual meals and add a few new ones to my rotation and have also been playing around with fall floral arrangements as a way to get me into the autumnal mood. Let me know if you’d like to see a video on my go-to arrangements because I’d love to film that for you. Finally, I’ve been planning a few final getaways for the season including a trip up to Maine later this month. If I could, I would spend all fall in Maine driving around New England, taking in the changing leaves and shorter days and spending cozy nights in as the temps drop but a week long visit is perfect too.

INSPIRATION

Is it just me or is fall, Pinterest season?? Maybe it’s the fashion or the holidays right around the corner (I know! Too soon! But it’s true….), but there’s something about August into September that always makes me want to light a candle, relax on the couch and Pin. I’ve already started settling into that feeling and gathering endless inspiration for my fall wardrobe, and as I go back through my old boards, I’m realizing how consistent my personal style has become. It’s so nice to see that what I loved a few years ago still rings true and so many of the purchases I’ve made have become permanent staples in my closet. It’s also reassuring to see that the things on my wish list will in fact work with my wardrobe and based on the pins I’ve been loving they’ll keep on giving for years to come.

Happy August! xx
