Winter to spring dressing can be tricky. In today's video I'm sharing some of the easy tweaks I use to take my winter outfits into spring. Thanks so much for watching! xx
Time(less) Episode 2: The Curated Camel Coat (VIDEO)
Today’s video is the second installment of my Time(less) series where I highlight some of my favorite things in my wardrobe. The pieces that have been made with care to stand the test of time. For episode 2, I want to share more about my camel coat from The Curated.
THE WHO: The Curated
THE WHAT: A carefully sourced collection of timeless high quality staples that come collectively together under one roof. Scandinavian based we are focused on sustainable luxury and minimal elegance for women.
THE CRAFT: The Curated works together with vertical mills to create luxury staples that are affordable. Vertical mills are factories that produce both the raw material and finished product. This means that they reduce environmental wastage, overproduction while increasing efficiency in production and cost.
From their website: “It is common that factories are often left with raw materials at the end of the season which are then turned into their own stock to sell for extra revenue. We then sell these items as a curated collection under our own brand. All the staples that we make are the highest quality and chosen due to their durability and longevity.
We believe in real affordable luxury fashion for the hardworking modern woman. We also believe in supporting small factories that are challenged by the fast fashion, low cost, high wastage industry.
Thats why we structure our pricing to make up less than 50% of the product cost. You can read more about our pricing here.”
THE WHY: I love camel coats and for me, they’re a wardrobe staple. Years ago I purchased my first one in a nice tailored style that has buttons and classic tailoring like crisp shoulders and finished sleeves. Since wearing that one non-stop every fall and winter since I got it, I wanted to add a looser, more relaxed but still polished option to my wardrobe. When The Curated came on my radar it checked all the boxes and I was instantly in love.
THE COAT I HAVE: The Classic Coat in Camel
- Organic Cashmere Wool Blend (30/70%)
- Created in Inner Mongolia China
- True to size
- Dry clean only
- Optional waist band (no sewn loops)
It comes in small, medium and large and I have it in small. As you can see, it fits me really well. It’s perfectly oversized but still structured on my 5’ 3/4” frame. If you’re shorter than me or having a very small frame, take extra care to look at the sizing chart and the model on their website before ordering.
THE EXTRA DETAILS: It’s cut so well. The sleeves are slightly cropped so they work perfectly for me and my petite frame. It also comes with waist tie that easily folds up and fits into the coat pocket or your purse when you’re not using it. The coat doesn’t come with belt loops though because Nicola (the founder) things it hangs better without them and I have to agree that it has the most elegant drape. I have heard though that newer versions now have inconspicuous belt loops.

SPRING 2019 WARDROBE PLANNING & NEW IN (VIDEO)
It’s that time again! Spring wardrobe planning is here and in today’s post and video, I want to share my 2019 plan with you. I’ve decided that this year, in the interest of keeping things fresh and exciting on this channel, that I won’t be sharing my own personal capsule but instead I’ll be sharing a mock capsule of about 30 pieces including shoes, accessories and outerwear and then demonstrating how these pieces can be mixed and matched for endless outfits. I’ve done this in the past and it’s been well received so I hope you’ll enjoy it again. In the meantime though, here is the plan for my own spring wardrobe. Like always, we’ll go over a quick recap of how I switch my closet from winter to spring and then the inspiration I’m pulling for this season, a few key outfits that are guiding this process, my color palette and then my wish list and new items I’ve added for spring. So, let’s hop right in.
HOW I MAKE MY CAPSULES EACH SEASON & A NOTE ON DECLUTTERING
Before we hop into the details for this capsule specifically, I want to give a quick rundown of my capsule wardrobe process on the whole. I did a more detailed overview of this process here, but essentially I start each capsule with the same base regardless of the season. This base consists of core closet staples that I can and do wear year-round. For me personally, these tend to be a white shirt, black skirt, black pants and other versatile pieces that create the perfect foundation for seasonal and trendy items that I swap in and out for each capsule. Another key part of this process is to donate, sell or repair anything I no longer wear, anything that doesn’t fit me, anything that is damaged etc.
Now, before we go any further I want to make a special note on decluttering as your prepare your closet. It’s very easy to get into this cycle of in and out and it’s especially trendy right now to declutter and obviously I think that’s great! BUT, I want to encourage you to start viewing your wardrobe as a fluid concept that should always be growing and changing with you, rather than something that’s disposable.
IT’S VERY EASY TO GET CAUGHT IN THE CYCLE OF IN AND OUT, BUT IF YOU’RE DOING WARDROBE CREATION & PERSONAL STYLE CULTIVATION THE RIGHT WAY, YOU SHOULD HAVE LESS AND LESS TO DISCARD EVERY YEAR.
I encourage you to look at your closet like a whole picture and avoid the temptation to declutter just for the sake of decluttering and to certainly avoid adding trendy or new items to your closet with the mentality that they can be disposed of at a later date if they don’t work out. Instead, I encourage you to add things that you can see yourself wearing for at least a few seasons.
This can be especially difficult if you’re working with a capsule wardrobe or just starting on this journey toward a streamlined closet that you love, and it’s certainly something that I struggled with as I figured out a method that worked for me. What I’ve found is that if you view your closet and every purchase you make as contributing to your personal style and your unique style journey, then you’re automatically more mindful about what you purchase. If you’re doing it right, you should have less and less to discard every year all the while getting closer and closer to achieving closet bliss.
For example, over the years I’ve become more and more conscious of purchasing high quality pieces that I truly love, and as I’ve made smarter purchases I’ve collected a closet full of things that I don’t want to part with. The result has been fewer purchases over all, but also more closet contentment.
Finally, I also encourage you to view purchases with the intention of A) keeping them for at least a few years and B) buying something that’s made well enough that it can enjoy a second life if and when you tire of it.
INSPIRATION
Before I actually tackle my closet and solidify my capsule each season, I like to gather some inspiration to help me visualize what I want to wear. I like to do this over on Pinterest (you can see my board here) and this inspiration includes everything from the colors I want to showcase to the emotions I want to feel and of course, the outfits I want to live in all season long. Once I've gathered some inspiration that represents my vibe for the season, I go through those images and pull out a few key elements that make the whole process a lot easier.
A FEW KEY OUTFITS
First up is a few key outfits that I can easily recreate. As you're going through your inspiration images you'll start to notice a few key pieces and outfits that you can start to pull out. By honing in on these outfits you can more easily identify the pieces you already have in your closet and any that you may need to add for a well-rounded capsule.
LIGHT LINEN & GOLD
Next up is light, airy outfits that feature classic silhouettes in lightweight linen - extra points for monochromatic takes on this. This is another look that I LOVE and has become a go-to for me since moving back down south.
If you live somewhere warm then I know you can relate and this season I want to wear many of my go-to looks and pieces from last year with a few updates here and there.
I also want to pair these things with pops of gold for monochromatic looks that are so easy to wear. The best part is that I can continue wearing these looks well into summer and early fall as well.
WHITE TEE & JEANS
This season, like every season before, I'm loving a simple white tee and jeans but with an update in the jean silhouette. This simple outfit should come as no surprise if you've been here before and it's an effortless combination that I wear year-round with different accessories, outerwear and shoes so I have no doubt that I'll wear it a ton this spring as well.
BEIGE
Beige is the color of the season and I want to jump on board this spring with big and small doses of it. I’m working on a beige styling video featuring my tips and a few outfit recommendations coming soon, so be on the lookout for that.
ROMANTIC BLOUSES
I am completely in love with the romantic blouses that are everywhere this season and I especially love them in white as a new take on something that I already know I love and wear. This season, I would love to incorporate them into my wardrobe and wear them with pants and jeans with different shoes for a romantic but relaxed look.
COLOR PALETTE
Once I've pulled out a few key outfits, I go through those images and start to pull out my color palette for the season. Now, because I like to stick to a year-round color palette, my foundational shades are almost always the same and this season is no different. So, for spring 2019 I'll be working with a base of black, white and ivory and my accent colors are beige (or camel), blue (which will mostly be showcased in my denim) and hints of green.
WISH LIST & NEW IN
Now for the fun part, my wish list and the things I’ve added to my wardrobe for spring! You can see everything in my video embedded below :) I’ve also linked everything in the description box there as well.
