5 Ways My Style Has Changed Since Moving

Happy Tuesday! I hope you had a nice weekend and were lucky enough to also have a 3-day weekend. On the heels of last week's post about what I miss and don't miss about NYC, I thought I would share the ways my style has changed since making such a big move.

Below, I've listed the 5 top ways my sartorial choices have changed slightly, and some of my closet staples that I rely on despite the move - which in my opinion is a true testament to a classic closet staple.

Easily the most noticeable difference in my style has been the lack of sweaters. Even though I still have my small collection of sweaters, I find that I reach for them less and less.

Instead, the warmer year-round weather down here coupled with my working from home has resulted in me swapping sweaters for tees more often than not.

That said though, I still have some stand-by classics that I always have on hand for when the temps do drop lower than I'd like. Plus, I never advocate getting rid of well-made pieces you love just because they don't fit your current stage in life so I intend to hold onto my sweaters for years to come and pull them out when I need them.

Next up is another fairly obvious one but I still thought I should mention it. Like my less frequent sweater wear, I also find myself reaching for heavy outerwear less overall.

Instead of my camel coat and black wool coat, I have been opting for just my Barbour jacket for almost all of the fall and winter seasons.

Also like my sweaters though I plan on holding onto these two classics for years to come despite being moved to the back of my closet for the near future.

This next one should come has no surprise but since moving back down south I have found myself craving more color than before.

While I doubt I will ever have a closet brimming with fuscia and rich purple, I have enjoyed opting for some more colorful options lately.

There's just something about not having to worry about soiling your lighter fair that have been excited to wear pale blue and light peach more in the coming months.

Next up is one that I never expected before I moved because I have never been much of a skirt wearer. Despite always having a standard little black skirt hanging in my closet, I often opted for pants and jeans to suit the cooler temps up north.

Now that I've got warmer weather year-round again, I have been surprised to find that skirts are quickly becoming one of my favorite things to wear. Not only do I love the ease of them, but I love how airy and feminine they are - even on the hottest days.

Plus, I love that with the simple addition of tights I can wear them year-round.

In addition to skirts, I've also been turning to dresses more than ever since relocating out of the city.

Like skirts, I love that dresses are lightweight, comfortable, effortless and versatile. After being reminded of the sticky often stifling summer weather down south, I have been dreaming of light as air sundresses even more.

In preparation for the warmer weather I've even picked up this blue and white beauty and can't wait to wear it soon.

There you have it! Those are the top 5 ways that my style has changed since moving back down south. In addition to the above, I have to say that relocating has really opened my eyes to the pieces that I wear consistently regardless of the season or my geographical location. Below, I've linked these pieces in case you're curious and I hope you have a great rest of the day!

Until next time,

Winter Lookbook | 6 Looks I've Been Wearing Lately

Happy Sunday and I hope you've had a great weekend so far! It's so hard to believe that February is almost over and with all the work on the house and some recent and upcoming travel, I haven't had a chance to shoot any full looks for you.

Rather than let the whole season slip by without sharing how I've been utilizing my minimized wardrobe, I thought I would put together a quick lookbook for you. This video, which you can view below or over on my YouTube channel features 6 looks that I've been loving this season along with the items used to create them.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you like it!

Until next time,

Spring Wardrobe Planning

It's hard to believe it's already that time again! With the holidays, work on the house, travel and more, this season has absolutely flown by. Even though the official first day of spring isn't until March 20th, I've gotten a head start on my spring additions this year because Jason and I will be in the Caribbean for a family wedding at the end of February. Plus, being back down south has meant that I need to embrace warmer weather much earlier than I used to. So, today's post is all about what I'm picking up for the new season as well as my inspiration for the coming months.

Maybe it's the fact that I'll be turning 30 this spring, or that I now have warmer weather year-round, but my inspiration for this coming season is light, bright and effortless. With strong floral notes and an ethereal tie to nature, I've been craving light pastels and crisp white in soft fabrics. As always, I've helped focus my sartorial goals with excessive pinning. I've embedded some of my favorites below, but you can see the full scope over on Pinterest here and here.

The colors I'm craving this spring are every shade of white and cream under the sun, with accents of rich pink, pale peach and muted green.

The help round it all out, I also plan on sporting bright cheeks and highlighted skin with rich brown accessories as much as possible.

LIP & CHEEK / ESPADRILLES / EARRINGS / SILK SCARFSTRAW HAT / LOAFERS

  1. One of my favorite ways to update my look for spring is to make beauty tweaks. This spring one that I'm loving is a bright pop of color on the lips and cheeks with minimal makeup everywhere else. To accomplish this I'm loving the Gressa Lip Boosts which offer the loveliest colors that last for ages.
  2. Next up is a classic pair of espadrilles. I love espadrilles for their ease, and my go-to pair recently ran out so I'm excited to have this staple back in my closet.
  3. Beyond beauty I think that jewelry (and all accessories for that matter) is a great way to update basic pieces. These gorgeous gem earrings are just what the doctor ordered - and only $22! I originally had my eye on this pair but the light pink unfortunately washed me out.
  4. Another way I'm excited to update my wardrobe this spring is with this bright silk scarf from LOFT. I recently picked this up and not only was it extremely reasonable, but the construction and colors are gorgeous.
  5. If you saw my trend report post then you know that I've had my eye on the recently released H&M straw hats that are under $20. I recently picked up both the pink and this one and couldn't be happier with them.
  6. Next isn't something I can purchase per-se but more something that I hope to accomplish and experience this spring. Personally, one of the greatest benefits of having a minimized wardrobe is that it has allowed me to spend less time worrying about what to wear and more time living. This spring I hope to take full advantage of that and spend my days surrounded by nature, fresh flowers and the ones I love.
  7. Last but not least is one that I will likely hold off purchasing for a bit but wanted to include it none-the-less. As someone who loves penny loafers and Everlane I was thrilled when I saw that they released penny loafers. Since their release I have been absolutely smitten with them but can't fully justify purchasing them when we're about to head into sandal weather.

Until next time,

Mason Pearson Review & Demo

Today's post is a quick review and demo over on YouTube of my Mason Pearson Brush. If you saw my "Hair Care Routine" video then you know that I love this brush, and I think that it has improved the overall condition of my hair by allowing me to go longer between washes, and reviving my locks without causing breakage or damage. Rather than share the ins and outs that I outline in my video twice, I'll just link to it below along with the cliff notes version of my review here. Ultimately, I hope that you find this helpful and that it helps steer you in the right direction if you're on the fence about making this purchase yourself.

  • Size Matters: When choosing the Mason Pearson that will work for you I recommend taking your hair length and thickness into consideration. Case in point - my own hair. Before purchasing my Mason Pearson I went back and forth on the size that I should get because I knew I didn't want a brush that was too large to travel with, but I also thought the smallest size wouldn't be able to cut it with my thick, course, long hair. Ultimately, I settled on the "handy" and have found that the size is perfect for catching the most hair so I don't need to spend too long brushing through it all. Plus, the paddle size is just right for my scalp and is 100% travel friendly.

  • Handle With Care: Speaking of travel, my next pointer is to always handle your brush with care while traveling and storing it. Even though in the past I have simply thrown my brushes in my bag or a drawer, when it comes to traveling with and storing my Mason Pearson I take extra care to not shove it up against something too firm. The reason being so that the bristles don't become smooshed and splayed. After-all, it would be such a shame to render your brush essentially useless after making such a steep purchase.

  • Go For Mixed: My next pointer is to opt for one of the mixes bristle brushes. Even though these brushes come in either just nylon or both nylon and boar bristle, I have found that the mixed option has made a world of difference. While the nylon bristles allow the brush to run through my hair effortlessly without getting caught in tangles, the boar bristles help evenly distribute excess oils resulting in a fresh and lifted coif every time.

  • Just Say "NO" To Heat: When using your Mason Pearson I strongly recommend keeping it away from the direct heat of a blow dryer so that you don't accidentally melt the bristles.

  • Wash Regularly: Lastly, I have found that washing my Mason Pearson regularly (every 1-2 months) has really helped stretch it's life and keep it looking and feeling brand new. In fact, despite being a few years old the only wear and tear visible is some light fading of the logo on the handle. Not too bad if you ask me and a true testament to the construction of this classic item.

Until next time,

Audrey
