I can’t believe that Christmas is only a few days away!!! Even though I’ve been listening to holiday music and watching Christmas movies for weeks now, it’s officially holiday crunch time so I wanted to share some of my favorite films for getting in the spirit. So, grab a cup of hot chocolate and a cozy blanket and let the movie marathon begin.
HOME ALONE
It doesn’t get more classic than Kevin McAllister.
RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER
One of my absolute favorites! My family would watch these little pieces of artwork every Christmas and if you haven’t seen it, you must. Still to this day, I can’t think about dentists without thinking about the little elf that wanted to go into dentistry - “I want to be a dentist!”
THE YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS
This is another movie I associate with my earliest memories of Christmas movies. We would watch this every year without fail and it’s still one of my all-time favorites.
THE HOLIDAY
I want to live in a Nancy Meyers film and The Holiday is one of the most beautifully decorated and styled holiday movies around.
NATIONAL LAMPOON’S CHRISTMAS VACATION
Who doesn’t love the Griswolds??
ELF
Everyone’s favorite elf and one of my personal favorite films. I love everything about this movie from the whimsical animations to the jazzy music and of course the fantastically P.G. humor. It’s the perfect feel good holiday movie and it’s not officially Christmas until I hear Will Ferrell scream “SANNNNTTTAAAAAA.”
THE FAMILY STONE
Beautiful house, great set design and an all-star cast including Diane Keaton, Sarah Jessica and Rachel McAdams make this a must-see for me.
SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN
Another classic animated Christmas movie.
HOME ALONE 2
Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal.
WHEN HARRY MET SALLY
This isn’t a holiday movie per se, but it has enough warmth and holiday cheer to keep me coming back all year long, but especially during the holidays.
SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE
Much like When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle isn’t a holiday movie in the strictest sense but it starts with Christmas and carries that holiday warmth through the entire movie.
LOVE ACTUALLY
This movie causes so many different holiday emotions and if you haven’t seen it, you must!
THE SANTA CLAUSE
This movie came out when I was about 7 and I’m instantly transported back to childhood the moment I turn this movie on.
HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS
A classic updated with a stellar cast.
A CHRISTMAS STORY
Another classic Christmas movie full of 1940’s nostalgia.
WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING
I love everything about this movie and it’s 1990’s glory.
WHITE CHRISTMAS
No Christmas is complete without seeing Bing sing about a white Christmas.
MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET
While both the original and the remake are wonderful, I prefer the updated version for it’s vibrant Christmas colors and feel good story. Plus, is there anyone better to play Santa than Richard Attenborough?
IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE
THE Christmas movie and a must if you’ve never seen it. Few actors hold a candle to Jimmy Stewart’s charisma.
THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL
Another Christmas movie that instantly transports me back to childhood. Plus, Michael Caine is perfect as Scrooge.
