I have a TON of very thick, very wavy, often unruly hair. Up until a few years ago, I struggled with finding a routine that worked day in and day out to keep my hair healthy, happy and frizz-free. Recently though I have honed in a few essentials that can turn any bad hair day into a great hair day. I'll share my in-depth hair routine from start to finish in a future post but for today's "Monday Must-Have" I want to rave about the importance of a great brush.
As you can imagine, I have tried countless brushes from drugstore to salon but have found that only two give me the results I want. The first is the cult classic Mason Pearson Handy Mixed Bristle Brush. Before I tried this brush I assumed the hype was just that and failed to see how a brush costing upwards of $100 could make any difference but oh how wrong I was! Not only does this beautiful brush smooth flyaways and frizz, it gives my hair volume at the roots and perfect piecey separation at the ends. With this brush I can turn third day hair into a mass of smooth, volumized locks in a matter of minutes. Results aside, I also love and recommend this brush because the classic design and sturdy style are guaranteed to last for years with proper care. As you know, I always favor classic, well-made pieces that can stand the test of time and I feel like this brush is perfectly aligned with that ethos. I have had mine for a little over a year and it still looks and performs as if it were brand new. The second brush I can't live without is the Wet Brush. I use this primarily for brushing through my hair when its wet and the flexible bristles do an amazing job of obliterating tangles without ripping or split ends. All-in-all, I cannot recommend either of these brushes enough and have linked a few of both below for you to check out.
Until next time, happy brushing!
