2018 Spring Capsule + My First eBook!

Today I'm excited to share my 23 piece spring 2018 capsule wardrobe! Most of the items in this season's capsule are pieces that I've had for years and you've definitely seen before, but a few are new and purchased recently second hand or via Grana and Everlane.

I've listed everything below and like always, my capsule doesn't include shoes, accessories or outerwear, but I will use the few that I have to supplement these pieces all season long.

Also, I am so excited to announce that my 1st eBook is now live! If you're interested in creating your own capsule or just need some help minimizing and focusing your existing wardrobe, you can pick up my very first eBook which reviews everything you need to know to create a versatile capsule that can be mixed and matched all year. Inside you'll find a crash course in classic separates and an overview of the core 10 that are always in my closet and make up the base of each and every one of my capsules. You'll also find an easy to follow guide for selecting your ideal color palette, a sample capsule with 27 easy pieces for a year of outfits and of course, how to create your own capsule in 4 easy steps.

    On My Radar No 32

Happy Friday! I have been busy chugging away on my first eBook this week and I can't wait to share it with you on Sunday!

In the meantime, I had a few technical difficulties when we lost internet for almost 3 days! Luckily, I was able to make it work and didn't lose too much time working so we're still on for my Sunday launch.

To coincide with my eBook, I'll also be sharing my spring capsule wardrobe and I've had a great time rediscovering a few of my favorite spring pieces. Before I go film all of them for you, here are a few of the things I've been loving this week.

SPRING 10x10 CHALLENGE | It's that time again! The Spring 10x10 Challenge is here and this time it's even more exciting than usual because Lee and Caroline are cohosting with Elizabeth Suzann! I still haven't decided if I'm going to participate, but here are all the details if you're interested.

NEW MELISSA MCCARTHY MOVIE | As a comedic actress, Melissa McCarthy was nominated for an oscar a few years ago and if the trailer for her new movie is any indication, she may be in the running once more.

AWAY LAUNCHES TRAVEL ACCESSORIES | Last but not least, I've been eyeing Away's luggage for a long time now so I was thrilled when they launched a small collection of travel accessories earlier this week, These carefully designed pieces are too perfect for travel and making the case for hopping on the Away train stronger every day.

    Buzz Worthy Trend: Bumblebees

Even though bumblebees are certainly nothing new and we've seen them popping up quite a bit in recent years, I've recently become smitten with this delicate detail and wanted to share a few of the cutest bee finds I've come across lately.

    1. First up is this adorable straw hat with black ribbon and delicate bee detail. I think this hat is perfect for spring and summer and would make a wonderful whimsical update to any spring wardrobe.

    2. Next up is a classic navy neck scarf with subtle bee print. I love how the bees on this scarf are white and the trim is red creating a classic balance of color that doesn't feel so patriotic that it veers into costume territory.

    3. I LOVE needlepoint loafers and these have been on my radar for the last 5 years. I adore the sage green color and classic bee embroidery and think they would look fantastic with white, navy or black.

    4. If you like the idea of a bee accent but don't want to commit to a full motif, I think this pink silk scarf is perfect. It has the slightest bee print and features the loveliest floral pattern.

    5. If you like a little more color in your accessories, this straw hat with red ribbon is perfect. Plus, the red, navy and gold feels like Gucci without the price tag.

    6. Last but not least, these bee and pearl earrings are too perfect not to include.

6 Style Secrets Every Stylish Woman Knows

Happy Sunday! Even though I'm sad that my Italian vacation has come to an end, I'm excited to be posting again and today's video is all about the 6 style secrets every stylish woman knows. Each of these tips are not only incredibly simple, but they will help ensure that you look your best every single day.

    THE RULE OF 3's

    rule+of+threes+close-up.jpg

First up is something that I've touched on in past videos, but the rule of 3's is one of my favorite style secrets. This simple theory is used a lot in art, design and fashion to create balance and visual interest and suggests that an outfit is never complete until it has a third piece. This third piece is typically a stand-out accessory like a great necklace, pair of earrings, belt or scarf, but it can also be an outer layer like a sweater, blazer or jacket. The main objective here is to elevate even the most basic outfit with a simple tweak to create a lasting impression.

THEY HAVE A 'UNIFORM" & STICK TO IT

One of the cornerstones of looking great is truly understanding and embracing your personal style. One of the easiest ways to do this without faltering is to find a "uniform" and stick to it - it's one of the secrets stylish people all over the world rely on and it helps ensure that you always have something to wear that fits, flatters and compliments you and your personal style. Also, the beauty of a "uniform" is that it can easily be tweaked with different accessories, shoes and outerwear for year-round wear.

THEY HAVE A SIGNATURE COLOR PALETTE & STICK TO IT

Along the same lines of a "uniform" stylish women everywhere also have a signature color palette and they stick to it!

Honing in on a color scheme that compliments your personal style and lifestyle and then sticking to it, helps ensure that your closet is filled with pieces that can easily be mixed and matched year-round.

For me personally, my color palette maintains a base of black, white and grey with accent colors of blue and ivory. This base allows me to effortlessly incorporate a few key pops of brighter and often trendier colors as needed throughout the year.

THEY HAVE & USE A TAILOR

    white-tailored-shirt-before-and-after.jpg

I cannot stress the importance of tailoring enough and it is undeniably a style secret that will transform how you look and feel in your clothing. Chic women and men have always relied on the power of a great tailor to take an otherwise ordinary item and turn it into a piece that looks custom to them and their body and I encourage you to do the same!

Not only does proper tailoring ensure that things fit you well, but you can also have pieces tailored to accentuate and enhance your figure the way that you want.

THEY KNOW HOW TO CARE FOR THEIR CLOTHES

    garments-care-labels.jpg

It's one thing to fill your closet with thoughtful purchases that fit you well, but it's another to care for those pieces properly to ensure that they look and fit great for as long as possible. Knowing how to care for your clothing and accessories is without a doubt an often overlooked part of looking your best but it really has the ability to make or break the versatility and longevity of your wardrobe.

To ensure that you're caring for your items appropriately, always take the time to study the garments care instructions and become knowledgeable about the best practices for washing, dry cleaning and repairing your pieces. I've touched on how I care for my own wardrobe in a few past videos, but I'm also working on a comprehensive guide that will be out later this year.

    THEY'RE SELECTIVE ABOUT TRENDS

Last but certainly not least, the most effortlessly stylish women are selective about trends and never hesitate to skip on any that don't suit their personal style. Each season there seem to be more and more trends and especially when the trends are so beautiful, it's easy to go overboard and want to adopt each and every one but a true style star knows when to pass on a trend that doesn't suit her personal style and lifestyle. The main takeaway here is to only participate in trends that feel authentic to you and your personal style and to pick pieces that can fit seemlessly into your existing wardrobe.
