Goodbye September, Hello October

It's hard to believe September is over!

Despite the fact that the temps are still saying summer, there's no denying that fall is here.

So, to commemorate the first of October I thought I would start a new series in which I recap the former month.

To kick it all off, I'm starting with September, and in this post I will outline my favorite looks, link back to some top posts, and share some insights here and there about what's going on in my life beyond this site.

Happy October!

My Favorite Looks

From traveling to Colorado (at the end of August but I'm still counting it) to welcoming the first day of fall, this month was full of some looks that I absolutely loved. I've linked a few above for you in case you missed the post - you can click directly on the image to see the original. To make up these looks and some others that I wore on repeat, I relied on a few of my go-to closet staples that I have linked below.

Top Posts This Month

This was such a fun month for so many reasons including that Jason and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary! Plus, I was able to finally share my Fall Capsule Wardrobe which lead me to share the steps I actually took to get here and how you can too.

Without a doubt, my biggest accomplishment this month has been nailing down a consistent blogging and YouTube schedule. With our move in May, followed by incessant house-hunting, I felt like there was little time left in the day to dedicate to this site.

For September, I really wanted to change that and am super happy with how it's worked out so far. Not only have I been able to share more of what I love with you, but I feel like this site is really growing into what I hoped it would become.

For October, I want to continue this streak and expand the content I cover with even more posts including "How To Wear A Navy Blazer 4 Ways," "10 Closet Essentials Every Woman Needs," "How I Care For Cashmere and Silk," "Layering 101," "10 Accessories Every Woman Needs," and so much more.

Also, I think this is a great time to invite you to reach out with post ideas anytime! I love hearing from you and want to provide content that is not only useful, but also applicable to the lives we lead as women in these modern times.

How was your September? What are you most looking forward to in October? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time,

Mad For Plaid: 37 Piece Fall Capsule Wardrobe Combination No. 2

Happy Friday! In honor of the week's end, I'm sharing a 37 piece capsule wardrobe combination that's perfect for casual Friday. This look is not only super simple to put together, but a great example of how classic separates can easily be dressed up or down. What's even better is that this combination will keep you professional and covered at the office, but can easily transition to the weekend without skipping a beat.

Below, I've linked the exact items pictured as well as some great high-quality alternatives.

Home Decor Haul

I am so excited to share today's post! As you know, Jason and I have been house-hunting here in Charleston and after months of searching we're finally getting closer to home ownership. More on that to come soon, but in the meantime I have a home decor haul to share.

One of the things Jason and I love most about Charleston is the incredible history around every corner. We love wandering around downtown and discovering street after street of historic homes, and we're so excited to eventually own a piece of that history ourselves.

In preparation, we've been slowly but surely buying some decor pieces that convey this atmosphere and will speak to the historical integrity of an older home. Needless to say, most of our shopping has taken place at antique malls, thrift stores, eBay and etsy because they are all wonderful destinations for unique, historical pieces. While searching these places we look for everything from furniture to cutlery and always gravitate toward pieces that are not only unique, but also tell a story.

Case in point is this beautiful collection of Charles Dickins books that we found buried in Goodwill. These beautifully bound books will make a great addition to any bookshelf

The great thing about these books besides their age (someone wrote their name and 1910 on the inside cover of one!), is that they're the loveliest shade of red and I can't wait to have a bookshelf (maybe even a built-in) to display them on.

The same day we got the books we popped into a local antique mall and picked up a few old glass bottles - pictured in the top photo. In a variety of sea glass blue and deep amber brown, these glasses will look amazing on a bureau or end table. To up the vintage chic vibe of them, I plan to use them as small vases for a single rose or hydrangea throughout the year.

The next piece that we've collected for the house are these incredible antique prints. If you've seen any number of my Instagram pictures then you know that I have a soft spot for antique prints and these are the perfect addition to my collection.

I'm going to frame these myself in thin gold frames and hang them in either one of the bedrooms or the living room depending on the color palettes we choose. I'm going to handle the framing myself so let me know if you're interested in seeing how I do it and I'll happily share the tutorial.

The last item we've gotten so far is this lovely sideboard with intricate carvings.

We purchased this piece after seeing it advertised on Craigslist and couldn't be happier with it. While it isn't too old (we estimate it's from 1920-30) it still has some lovely details that typically accompany an older piece. Even though the edges are obviously a little worn, we don't mind it and will likely only give it a quick polish to let it shine.

Until next time,

Vintage Ralph Is The Best Ralph: My First Fall Capsule Wardrobe Outfit

Even though the temps are still in the 80's here in Charleston, I couldn't resist wearing my favorite vintage skirt. This skirt, which I scored on Etsy last year has quickly become a favorite of mine for so many reasons.

Not only are the colors perfect for fall, but it has a super comfortable wrap style and belt loops - so hard to find in most modern day skirts.

To let the colors in the skirt shine, I paired it with my navy long-sleeve tee (though my short sleeve silk top would have been better for the weather).

To top off the look I wore my favorite Dooney & Bourke vintage belt and satchel and go-to gold J. Crew bangle.

I have embedded the items that are still available for purchase below in case you're interested, and would love to know if you're having fall weather where you live. I can't wait for the cooler temps to arrive down south and would love to live vicariously through you until then.

Until next time,

Audrey
