My Fall Capsule Wardrobe

It's finally fall capsule time! Over the past few weeks I have been working to nail down the pieces I plan to wear the most this season, and am so excited to share them with you today.

Like last time, my "capsule" consists of the core basics that I wear year-round along with some more seasonal pieces that I have added in. Also like last time my capsule does not include outerwear, shoes, accessories or jewelry but these pieces remain available to me throughout the year. When combined with my capsule, these items bring my entire closet to about 100 pieces.

Also, as I shared with my summer capsule, this approach to dressing allows me to keep a smaller wardrobe over all, while still having a streamlined selection of pieces on display for me every day. This ultimately gives me the freedom of versatility without the feeling of being overwhelmed.

Below, I have outlined my 31 capsule pieces along with the rest of my wardrobe for you to hopefully get some inspiration for your own streamlined fall wardrobe. To help demonstrate just how versatile this approach to dressing can be, I will share various outfit combinations with you both here and on my YouTube channel throughout the season. Each time I share a look, I will be sure to outline the capsule pieces, outerwear (if any), jewelry, shoes and purses that I combined to make the look.

Additionally, I have added an asterisk next to the items not in my capsule that I anticipate I will reach for the most this season. That way, if you choose to adhere to a traditional capsule you can see what blazers, shoes and accessories I would recommend including.

Before I jump into the pieces I'll leave you with this. As you read through my list and watch my capsule video, keep in mind that for me, a seasonal capsule of about 30 pieces is the magic number that feels both manageable and versatile - but that may not be the case for you. If you choose to capsule dress in the traditional sense, or are just trying to edit your closet, I would encourage you to experiment here and there until you find a number and system that works for you.

Try not to adhere too strictly to one set number and feel free to make that 10, 15, 20, 50 or more pieces! Just keep in mind that the goal of streamlined, capsule dressing is to free yourself from the stress of getting dressed, not add to it so don't limit yourself too much and remember to have fun with it. After all, it's just clothes!

Summer Favorites

Happy Friday! By this time next week it will officially be fall! As I prepare for the new season I have been thinking about some of the things I've enjoyed the most this summer and wanted to share them with you today.

Everlane Cotton U-Neck Tee

To kick it all off, let's begin with a fashion item that I have worn more this summer than any other - the Everlane Cotton U-Neck Tee. This tee simply perfect and I couldn't be happier with the quality, fit and weight of it.

Not too thin and not too thick, this tee is ideal for wearing alone in the scorching southern summer, but can also be layered underneath sweaters, blazers and jackets during the cooler months. Plus, the price point is perfectly in line with the quality which can be so hard to find with cotton tees.

Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturizer

My next favorite, is the Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturizer. If you saw my current skincare routine, you'll know that I have been loving this moisturizer as part of my simple 4-step routine.

Like all of Tata Harper's amazing products, this moisturizer not only looks and smells beautiful but it also works! It does a lovely job of keeping my sensitive, acne-prone skin hydrated and clear and has earned a permanent spot in a medicine cabinet

ALTERNA Caviar Anti-Aging Omega+ Nourishing Hair Oil

As I'm sure you can tell, I have a ton of very thick, course, long and wavy hair. My natural hair texture combined with the intense Charleston humidity equals frizz city. To help combat that I have been loving the ALTERNA Caviar Anti-Aging Omega+ Nourishing Hair Oil.

This oil does a fantastic job of keeping frizz bay without being too heavy and weighing my hair down. It smells lovely, isn't greasy and lasts forever. I could go on and on all day but instead I'll just leave you with two thumbs up and a glowing recommendation.

Nars Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

When it comes to making my liner and shadow stay put, a primer is essential. What isn't essential is most eye primers on the market. Throughout the years I have tried and tested just about every primer out there and can honestly say that none of them can hold a candle to the Nars Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.

If you have oily eye lids like I do, this primer will change your eye makeup game for the better and I can honestly say I don't know how I survived without for so long. That said though, sometimes when the heat and humidity are insanely high, this primer isn't enough to keep my look on lock down so I have a little trick that involves my next favorite.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

For those days that the heat is off the charts and the humidity reaches close to 100%, I need more than just a great primer to keep my eye liner and shadow in place so I turn to the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder for some extra staying power.

This powder does a phenomenal job of keeping oil and shine at bay without looking cakey so when I apply a light dusting across my t-zone, I hit my eyelids as well. Next, I apply some of the Nars primer, let it set and then lock it all in with another very fine layer of the Rimmel powder. The end result is a base that will NOT budge!

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner

My final favorite for the summer is the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner. I wear a cat eye just about every day and this liner is the absolute best for achieving that crisp, dark line. As the name suggests, this liner is 100% waterproof and doesn't budge even in the strongest southern thunderstorm.

As I leave you with my accompanying YouTube video I'd love to know what your summer favorites are. Do you have anything you can't live without? Let me know in the comments and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

My Last Summer Capsule Outfit: All Black With A Pop

As I type this, the temps are finally starting to drop here in Charleston. Each morning is the perfect blend of breezy and cool as the last days of summer whisper their final goodbyes. With this sudden shift in the weather and the first day of fall just around the corner, I am slowly winding out of my summer capsule.

To prepare for the new season, I will be sharing my fall capsule wardrobe in the next few day. In the meantime, I am sharing my last summer capsule outfit.

During these final summer days I have been reaching for my darker items more and more, and this outfit is no exception. For this look I paired my black silk button down with my simple a-line black skirt to let my accessories shine.

As you know, I think accessories are the key to stretching a minimized wardrobe so I put that mentality to work with this look. By pairing my simple black basics with some standout accessories (a bright bangle, bold scarf and structured bag), this all-black look felt fresh rather than dreary.

This scarf perfectly represents why I love silk scarves so much. Not only are the colors bright and fun, but it instantly dresses up any look.

Plus, by tucking my shirt into my skirt the pieces look like a dress rather than separates. This pairing stretches these pieces even further, and is the perfect example of why I love working with a minimized wardrobe.

Rather than have a closet full of dresses, tops and skirts, I'm able to create multiple looks from just two pieces and some carefully chosen accessories. What's even better, is the amount of stress that this approach has eliminated, resulting in much less time worrying about what to wear every day and more time enjoying life. At the end of the day, what could be better than that?!

Before I sign off I'd love to know if you have any accessories you come to time and time again. Also, what tricks do you use to stretch your minimized wardrobe? I absolutely love hearing from you and can't wait to share a new season of thoughtful, minimized dressing with you soon!

Less Is More: My Simple, 4-Step Skincare Routine

As with my wardrobe, I prefer to keep my makeup, hair and skincare routines simple. I find that fewer, high quality items not only serve me better, but also help me stick with a routine that works. By using products for longer than a few weeks, I'm also able to experience their full potential and fairly evaluate if they actually work.

*I have been using each of the products listed below for quite some time, and can say with certainty that they're extraordinary.

Step 1: Remove Makeup & Cleanse

Before I jump into the products I rely on, I should say that I have combination to very oily skin depending on the season. Also, my skin is extremely sensitive, and I tend to favor all natural and organic products.

Now, to begin my routine each morning, I cleanse my skin with Dr. Bronner's 18-in-1 Pure-Castile Liquid Soap. I have used this soap for years and can't say enough good things about it. I use it to cleanse both my face and body and absolutely love how it leaves my skin feeling fresh but not too dry.

One important thing to note about this soap though, is that it is very concentrated and a little goes a long way so I dilute mine with 1 part Bronner's and 2-3 parts water depending on the season - I dilute it more in the fall and winter and less in the spring and summer.

In the evenings I repeat the same process of cleansing my skin, but will first remove my makeup from the day. To do this I use the Badger Damascus Rose Facial Cleansing Oil.   This cleansing oil is fantastic and easily removes even my waterproof eye makeup without needing to tug or pull at my skin - which I love.

I don't use it like a traditional cleansing oil though, and instead use it just as a makeup remover. That said, I have used it as a cleanser and it is wonderfully gentle yet effective. I just prefer using a traditional cleanser.

To use the oil, I apply a few pumps into the palm of my hand and then gently massage it into my skin for 30 seconds to a minute. Once the oil has set, I will remove it with some basic cotton rounds before cleansing with Dr. Bronner's.

Step 2: Tone

After cleansing, I always tone my skin. Over the years I have used a variety of toners, but my favorites have to be those that spray onto the skin. Currently, I'm using the Evan Healy Rose Petal Facial Tonic HydraSoul. I love this toner for a myriad of reasons, but most importantly being that it smells lovely and tones my skin gently enough that it doesn't become irritated. All-in-all, it leaves my skin feeling fresh, hydrated and prepped for moisturizer.

Step 3: Moisturize

At this point, I will sometimes use a serum but since I don't currently have one, I'll jump right into moisturizer. To hydrate my skin I am absolutely LOVING the Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturizer.

This moisturizer is a new addition to my skincare routine that I simply can't get enough of. As someone with sensitive, acne-prone, oily skin I have a hard time finding a moisturizer that is hydrating without being heaving, and clarifying without being drying but not anymore!

As the best of both worlds (moisture and oil/acne control), this moisturizer leaves my skin feeling perfectly balanced after each use. I have been using this for a few weeks now and even in the intense Charleston heat and humidity, my skin has never felt too oily or weighed down while using it.

Plus, the scent is gorgeous and the formula even helps keep redness at bay, which is no small feat when dealing with southern summers.

Before I go I'd love to know what skincare products you rely on and if you have any recommendations for an eye cream or sunscreen as I'm on the hunt for both. Also, below I have included a quick skincare video that I posted on YouTube.

Until next time,

Audrey
