1 Item, 4 Seasons, 4 Looks: White Jeans

When it comes to building a versatile, streamlined wardrobe classic basics are essential. These multi-tasking must-haves span the realm of tops, sweaters, pants, jeans, skirts, dresses and blazers and can not only be mixed and matched for endless outfit possibilities, but can also be worn across all four seasons when chosen carefully. I have touched on these essentials briefly here and here but to highlight the versatility even more, I will be starting a new column to showcase how one piece can be worn in four separate seasons, four separate ways. To begin this series, I want to wax poetic about classic white jeans. I love these clean, crisp bottoms for their endless versatility and sophistication and think every wardrobe needs a medium weight pair that fits well and makes you feel instantly chic. While the process of finding your perfect pair can be daunting and tiring, once you do the reward is wonderful and you will have a sleek closet compadre for all seasons. Below, I have outlined a few ways that I wear mine in winter, spring, summer and fall.

During the winter I love to wear white jeans with rich cognac accessories. Less harsh than black (though black on white is eternally chic), cognac accessories help offset the white and act as the perfect base for a navy turtleneck. This look can also be worn with a classic pea coat, camel coat or even Barbour coat if the weather is mild.

When spring rolls around I love to ditch the turtleneck and pull on a casual v-neck and statement necklace. I swap the boots for espadrilles or ballet flats and carry a cognac satchel to stow away a light coat if needed. The final look is one that I wear constantly and can easily transition from the office to the weekend by changing the shoes and jewelry.

During the summer nothing beats white jeans and a classic striped t. To take full advantage of the summer styling opportunities, I love to pair this combo with wicker accessories and leather sandals for a look that's equal parts laid-back and refined.

As summer fades to fall and the days grow shorter and cooler I like to wear my skinny jeans with a chunky knit sweater and ballet flats. To elevate the look beyond the basics, I love to tie a silk scarf around my neck and carry and statement clutch in a rich hue. This look is all at once chic and casual and I wear it on repeat each fall with either ballet flats, chelsea boots or riding boots.

Until next time!

Navy And Tweed

Hands down one of my favorite colors is navy and I wear it constantly. In fact, despite living in the city I rarely wear black and am more likely to wear head to toe blue when in need of a dark neutral base to build an outfit around. Recently, for a lovely day spent outdoors I did just that and layered my go-to J. Crew long-sleeve t and matching Zara trousers under my new tweed Zara coat.

To highlight the blue in the shirt and trousers, I pinned one of my favorite brooches to my jacket.

To keep the look cohesive I kept the rest of my accessories fairly simple and opted for a dark brown belt, ballet flats and leather satchel. To top it all off I couldn't resist throwing on my multi-strand pearls.

Monday Must-Have: The Striped Shirtdress

1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5

Spring has finally sprung! This weekend was filled with sunshine and warm weather that left me pining for sandals and lightweight, easy-to-wear outfits. So, in the spirit of afternoon walks in the park and long dinners outdoors, today's must-have is the shirtdress. This versatile essential is not only one that I adore, but also wear constantly because it always looks put together, and can be worn across all four seasons. While I favor classic blue and white in a medium weight cotton, shirtdresses are available in a variety of colors and patterns that can take you from work to play and from summer to fall. Above, I have highlighted five of my faves that are available now and below I have outlined how I wear mine year-round.

Spring

During the spring my favorite way to wear shirtdresses is with classic ballet flats and a cardigan or light blazer. This combo can easily be worn to the office or brunch and looks amazing with chunky gold jewelry or unstated pearls. This look is the perfect blend of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn and is one that I wear constantly.

Summer

When the temperatures rise I love to pair my shirtdress with low heel espadrilles or sandals and a floppy hat. With the addition of delicate gold hoops and a silk scarf you'll be ready for French Riviera in no time.

Fall

While shirtdresses are often synonymous with the warmer months, I love wearing mine with thick tights, a wool blazer and either riding boots or loafers in the fall. Paired together these pieces create a look that is all at once collegiate and cool.

Winter

During the winter when the temps are freezing I like to layer my shirtdress over very thick, cableknit tights and under either a cashmere crewneck sweater or turtleneck. When worn with low heel boots or booties, this look is perfectly polished and comfortable while being a step above the standard jeans and sweater combo.

Until next time!

Word On The Street: April 15, 2016

Happy Friday! This week has been filled with lovely spring weather, productivity and fun - what more can you ask for. I'm looking forward to soaking up every second of sun this weekend with a short break to see The Jungle Book. Until then though, word on the street is.....

1. A little known fact about me is that I studied opera performance in college. While I eventually took a different career path, I cherish my training and adore anything opera related. Needless to say, I can NOT wait to see Meryl Streep's performance as the "worlds worst opera singer."

2. Speaking of music, I passed the new Steinway flagship in the city the other day and was blown away by how lovely it is. This feature on TownAndCountry.com was perfectly timed and I am eager to take a more detailed tour of the shop soon.

3. In case you missed it, I rounded up my three favorite dry shampoos on Monday and shared my five favorite square silk scarf ties on Thursday.

Until next time, have  a great weekend!
