First Hints Of Spring

Around this time every year winter loses all appeal for me. The nostalgia of snow capped mornings and hot chocolate nights quickly gives way to a longing for fresh blooms and warm breezes. To help aid the impending thaw and prepare my wardrobe for warmer days, I have been slowly but surely incorporating spring flairs. Most recently I couldn't resist layering cream and denim with pops of coral for a transitional look that didn't leave me out in the cold.

To keep with the late winter vibes, I paired my favorite cotton cable knit sweater with similarly hued pants and rich brown accessories. To break up the monochrome and bring it into spring a little, I topped the look with my go-to denim jacket and vintage Ralph Lauren silk scarf.

Classics Are Forever

Forever 21 Striped Shirt Vintage Brooks Brothers Blazer Vintage Scarf LOFT Skinny Jeans Cole Haan Ankle Boots

The old adage "what's old is new again" rings very true in my life. From antique bureaus to vintage blazers, I love collecting timeless treasures that add that special touch to my home and outfits. If you've been following along my sartorial adventures, then you have seen me mix new and old time and time again. Today, I'm doing it again with this look.

For a recent weekend afternoon I paired my favorite vintage Brooks Brothers blazer with a Forever 21 striped shirt, LOFT skinny jeans and vintage silk scarf. I have found that the key to buying vintage pieces that feel modern is to look for them in classic cuts with standout styling. In the case of this blazer, the style is one that you could find in stores today and has no tell-tale signs of age (shoulder pads, short cut on the torso, flared wrists or sleeves etc.) Instead, it boasts a timeless silhouette and gold buttons that add just the right je ne sais quoi.

To tie the striped shirt and blazer together and add a Parisian flair, I wore this amazing vintage silk scarf. By far my favorite vintage accessories to collect are scarves and I have found that when buying them the key is to look for pieces with unique patterns in traditional colors. For example, this scarf features an amazing formal living room print (arm chairs, side tables etc) but is printed in classic black, white and gold so the pattern feels fun and whimsical instead of dated. For shoes, I wore my super comfortable Cole Haan ankle boots and carried my go-to J. Crew purse.

Striped Shirt: Forever 21 (this is one of my faves and is an amazing deal for the quality - it's 100% cotton, not see-through and on sale for only $7.99! ) / Blazer: Vintage Brooks Brothers / Jeans: LOFT / Scarf: Vintage / Purse: old J. Crew but similar here / Chelsea Boots: Cole Haan

Let me know if you are interested in seeing a more in-depth look at how I vintage hunt and I would be more than happy to put an overview together! Until next time, happy vintage hunting.

Nautical Accessories Vintage Nautical Print Silk Scarf Chanel Ballet Flats J Crew Sand Dollar Necklace

Good morning and happy Monday! We are experiencing an absolutely frigid start to the week here in New York. Despite the chilling temps, the overcast, calm feel of the low hung winter sky always makes me think of the coast. This undeniable connection causes me to reach for my nautical pieces even more than usual. From scarves to blazers to necklaces, nautical accessories are an absolute must-have in my book and thus, the topic of today's post.

From subtle nods to full-blown dedications, nautical touches add the perfect amount of classic character to any look. Over the years my love affair with nautical fair has grown exponentially and I can honestly say I've never met an anchor or stripe I didn't love.
