Monday Must-Have: A Signature Pasta Dish

Home Chef #homechef pasta recipe spaghetti alla puttanesca recipe

Happy Monday! Like I mentioned in my Friday post, one of my 2016 goals is to diversify this blog a little and share more of the things I love beyond fashion. My hope is that this diversified approach will help inspire me and you to live life a la mode as much as possible. So, beginning today I will be sharing something I'm loving each week in a new column called "Monday Must-Have." This column will cover everything from fashion to food to beauty and more, and I hope that you will love some of the things I share just as much as I do. To kick it all off, this week's Monday must-have is...... a signature pasta dish!

I absolutely love food. To me, there is nothing better than a great meal with great company, and some of my fondest memories can be traced back to my love affair with food. That said though, if I am cooking at home I need dishes that are quick and easy to prepare so that I can spend less time cooking and more time enjoying. In fact, Jason and I always joke that if it takes longer than 30 minutes to make, we're not interested. Joking aside, this quick and easy approach to cooking has resulted in an ever growing love for pasta. Not only are pasta dishes absolutely delicious, but they are super easy to make, usually only take 1-2 pots (which means less clean-up), and allow for endless possibilities to suit the seasons. For these reasons, I truly believe that everyone should have at least 1 signature pasta dish that they love, and can whip up in no time. To help me practice what I preach, Home Chef so graciously sent me one of their pasta dishes to try out, and I could not be happier with both the service and my new signature dish.

For those unfamiliar, Home Chef is a fantastic meal delivery program that provides all the fresh ingredients and corresponding recipes for quick and easy, gourmet level meals at home. Each set of meals is easy to make in 30 minutes or less, and saves you the hassle of having to scour Pinterest for hours to find recipes, only to then make countless trips to the grocery store for the ingredients. From the moment my Home Chef package arrived I was impressed. The quality of the ingredients surpassed my expectations and the recipe card was so easy to follow. From the olives to the capers to the tomatoes, the ingredients all lent themselves beautifully to the Home Chef motto - cook easier and eat healthier with Home Chef - and had me serving up Spaghetti alla Putanesca in no time. If you're feeling inspired to find your own signature pasta dish or just want some weeknight wonders delivered straight to your door, use the code INSTACHEF and receive $30 off your first box.

Word On The Street

Ralph Lauren Plaid Shirt LL Bean Sweater Levis Jeans

Happy Friday!! One of my 2016 goals is to diversify this blog a little and cover a more well-rounded array of topics. In an effort to accomplish this I am starting a new column called "Word On The Street" which will highlight the stories in fashion, beauty and pop culture that I'm loving for the week. So, without further ado word on the street is.......

1. WhoWhatWear.com is easily one of my favorite fashion sources and this post on new ways to wear your button down is speaking my language.

2. Barbie got a new makeover and I'm so excited to see more of this brand evolution.

3. I'm a huge morning person and savor my quiet time before the rest of the world wakes up so it is imperative that I get to bed early, and fall asleep quickly. These tips are helping me ensure that this happens and I totally recommend trying them out yourself.

4. Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are too cute for words in their newly released music video - trust me it's so worth watching.

5. If flowers are your jam for Valentine's Day, then look no further than this gorgeous round-up of delivery services

6. In a news story straight out of my dreams, a new Beatrix Potter story has been discovered after 100 years

Until next time, have a great weekend!

The day after Winter Storm Jonas blew through, Jason and I couldn't wait to suit up and survey the damage. We left our apartment fairly early in the day and were thrilled when we came across a perfectly untouched field. The snow was powdery and pristine and glittered like a million tiny diamonds in the sunlight. It was truly a winter wonderland straight out of Narnia and we couldn't leave without snapping a few pictures.

To ensure I could explore without freezing, I layered up in my favorite white Ralph Lauren button down and American flag sweater. For footwear I turned to none other than my go-to Bean Boots and topped it all off with my camel coat from Brooks Brothers for a look that was equal parts collegiate and chic.

Effortless Essentials: Bean Boots

Preppy Style LL Bean Boots

In light of Winter Storm Jonas, my newest "Effortless Essentials" post is all about my favorite snow boots. Spending most of my childhood in Florida I never needed to worry about snow, or appropriate snow gear so when I moved up to the city I was in for a bit of a shock. Not only did I need to stock up on socks, coats, scarves and hats, but I also desperately needed new footwear. As the temperatures dropped my first winter in New York, and the threat of snow became imminent, I deferred my boot search to my husband and native Mainer, who instantly recommended the cult classic and incredibly popular L.L. Bean Boots.

Before I go any further, let me say that these are SO WORTH THE HYPE! These wonder boots are made in Maine, completely waterproof, warm and oh-so versatile as you can see below, and on my fall/winter pinterest board. To suit a myriad of tastes, heights and weather conditions L.L. Bean offers an array of styles to choose from, but I have found that the classic 8 inch with thinsulate are the best. They are the perfect height to keep snow and slush from slipping into my socks and can be worn with pants, leggings, jeans and even skirts and dresses in the fall. If you're a first time bean buyer it is also important to note that these boots run very large to accommodate thick socks so I would size down a whole size - I am typically a size 7 in boots and ordered a 6 and they fit perfectly.
